Siding in South Guelph
Repair, matching and single-elevation work on the builder-grade vinyl across Guelph's newer south-end subdivisions.
The south end is where Guelph has grown hardest, and the houses through Westminster Woods, Clairfields, Pine Ridge, Grange Hill East and Kortright Hills are mostly under twenty years old and clad in builder-grade vinyl. The wall assembly behind that vinyl is usually modern and sound, which changes the job entirely. This is not normally re-clad territory. It is repair, matching and single-elevation work. Three failures dominate out here. Cracking, which happens when a panel takes an impact in cold weather, because vinyl is brittle below freezing and a ladder foot, a shovel, a thrown stone or a puck in February does what it would never do in July. Warping and rippling, usually on the walls taking the hardest afternoon sun and usually made worse by panels that were nailed tight instead of left free to move. And panels blown off in wind, which is almost always a locking or fastening problem rather than a material problem — if a run unzipped from the bottom, the starter strip is the likely culprit and the rest of the house deserves a look. The hard part here is matching. Vinyl colours and profiles get discontinued constantly, and even a colour that is still made will not match a wall that has been in Guelph sun for fifteen years. A repair on a front elevation that has to disappear is a different job from a repair on a side wall nobody looks at. Often the right technique is pulling equally-aged panels from a hidden elevation, using them to patch the visible damage, and re-cladding the hidden wall in the closest current product. We will tell you when a perfect match is not available rather than promising one. Where a genuine upgrade does come up out here, it is usually a front elevation done in fibre cement or board and batten while the other three sides stay vinyl, which works well provided the transition lands at a corner and the trim depth is designed rather than improvised.

Frequently asked questions
Do you charge more to work outside the city?
Not inside Guelph. For Rockwood, Fergus, Elora, Puslinch, Aberfoyle, Ariss and the rest of the county, travel is built into the quote up front rather than added afterwards, so the number you agree to is the number. Rural jobs are often quoted with the outbuildings included because the mobilisation is already paid for.
Can you do one wall instead of the whole house?
Yes, and plenty of jobs here are exactly that — a wind-damaged elevation, a sun-beaten west wall, a gable end, or the rear addition on an older house. The honest caution is matching: an existing colour that has been on the wall for fifteen years will not match a new panel of the same name, so a single wall is straightforward where it stands alone and harder where it meets an untouched wall at a corner in full view.
